Play information:
Can we forgive transgressions committed in the name of love? Of art? How far is too far? Neil Labute’s provocative play, The Shape of Things explores the dark undercurrents swarming below the surface of human interaction. What begins as a romantic, idealized ‘boy meets girl’ story ultimately evolves into a chilling exploration of human nature at its most sociopathic and destructive. Invoking the Bible, classical mythology, art theory, literature, and the conventions of dramatized romance, this play functions powerfully on several levels. Labute’s terrain is the battleground of the sexes, where the sincere desire for love conflicts with insecurity, vanity, and the viciousness of self-interest. The play concludes with an emotionally brutal ‘twist’ ending that is… twisted. Join us for what promises to be an unforgettable experience as we present one of the 21st centuries great plays by one of its most celebrated playwrights.
NOTE: This production contains adult language and situations, and is intended for mature audiences.
